dictaphone assemblage audio folk art
recorded April 1st through 30th, 2022
with four Sony ICD PX-470 stereo digital dictaphones
in Gainesville, Florida
sounds of my daily life and spoken words
mixed together in an automatistic random chance shuffle procedure
featuring recordings, sounds, and other contributions by:
Jeff Central, C. Mehrl Bennett, John M. Bennett, Jiblit Dupree, Rafael González, Jerry Kranitz, Lenny Pearlman, Lumen K, Leslie Singer, Stanley, Bailey, family members, co-workers, USPS delivery person
I talked a lot, and I played circuit bent Casio SK-1, two string pink dumpster guitar, KQ Unotone iPhone synth. I read excerpts from John M. Bennett's "Gravel Was The Future". I read movie reviews that I wrote of "Licorice Pizza", "France", and "Red Rocket"
Jerry Kranitz contributed the rant "Airlines Suck" on Track 4
April 2022 Report
is like listening to four cut-up sound collages at the same time
or watching four different films projected onto four screens
The listener completes the assemblage!
You are encouraged to do other things while you listen
Make your own sounds and let in sounds from the outside
The fifth track is "Vertical Zig-Zag", a 28-minute recording of a performance by Jeff Central, C. Mehrl Bennett, and John M. Bennett at the Frequency Fridays event on Friday, April 1st at the Columbus Arts Center in Columbus, Ohio. As you will hear by listening to April 2022 Report, I was scheduled to perform with Cathy, Jeff, and John at that event, but Delta Airlines made that impossible through their incompetence. My three friends performed any way (and they dedicated their performance to me), which made me feel better about things! Thanks to Alison Colman and The Fuse Factory
supported by 4 fans who also own “April 2022 Report”
Rather than describe what this sounds like (a futile task), I will describe how it makes me feel. First it is much like white noise, blocking the world around me. It's just me and whatever I happen to be giving my attention to with no distractions or external worries. Then it is energizing and uplifting. I have more focus and energy. These soundscapes get me in the zone to help me concentrate on whatever I'm doing, whether it be washing dishes or scrolling Facebook. And it sounds damn cool too. dharmalogos
