Chance Encounter in Colorado was a collaboration by Colorado residents Dan Jackson and Josh Boutwell. The production was initiated by Josh creating noises with a mishmash of rackmount effects (named "Madness", initially "Spacebox) that consist of 3 oscillators and lo-fi delays and reverb. Dan imported these files into Logic X on his Mac, recorded some complementary textures on his Eurorack modular synth setup and started building up something resembling what he thought might at some point be considered "music". In the meantime Josh concocted some textures and beats on a Roland SP-808 (a sampler) and Boss RC-50 (a loopstation) which ended up being the "heart" of the completed piece. Dan took this textured beat, chopped and processed it with many different plug-ins in Logic. For garnish, Dan added bits of heavily processed sampled vocals from free "Text to Speech" websites (only the words "Chance" and "Encounter" were used).
