Boyd Nutting:
"Some notes on what I did making Dehydra Malform. Dylan Houser sent me the audio file called Formaldehydra to work with for this compilation. We talked a bit back and forth on some ideas, and I walked around with it bouncing around in my head for a few weeks. Eventually I decided that rather than do my usual conceptual big head stuff I would just work with the material he sent as I saw fit. His original track is complex and stands alone. It doesn't need me meddling with it, which is pretty much what I did.
I sampled and looped, filtered, reversed, transposed and generally cut-up his piece, improvising as I recorded. I used Ableton Live with Push II for the sampling etc. with its internal instruments. I recorded it in Audacity on a Mac. Dylan also had an image on his Bandcamp site which I lifted and bent, twisted and crinkled as well, using some kind of generic paint program."
Dylan Houser:
"My recording was made during a lengthy session on the morning of July 16th, 2019, after I got home from work. From what I can remember, this session consisted of a looping pedal, a ZOOM bass fx pedal, a Behringer ULTRA METAL distortion pedal, a Behringer Vintage Delay pedal, a Hing-Hon EK001 keyboard, a contact mic, and various acoustic sounds. I extracted about five minutes of audio from this session, messed around with it for a bit in Audacity, and split the recording in half, panning the first half in the left stereo channel and the second half in the right channel. I then sent it off to Boyd Nutting and let him do whatever he pleased with it, and I must say, he did a mighty fine job."
