Another delve into the cassauna catalogue...interested to find this late Schnitzler; a towering and prolific figure, this is all you would want it to be...edgy and expansive but also capable of intimately observed minutiae...insistent foregrounding as well as nebulous depth of field...and somewhat ominous and eery...perfect! what should have been originally released. the lo-fi nature works wonderfully in the record's favor... feels very natural. bailey plays off of the backing quite nicely! james

It's Schnitzler, that's why! These are unreleased (as far as I know) recordings from 1972, and they show his typical style of rhythmic synth music (some ambient, too). One drawback: No liner notes. Still, a great album.

Amazing from start to finish. Sort of like encountering Harry Smith's Anthology of American Folk Music for the first time, it's like stepping off a spiral staircase into the deep end of a whole 'nother universe of mysteries. "Triptik 2", the closer, is one of the most jaw-droppingly strange/hypnotic collisions of jazz, electronica, psychedelia and WTF I've ever heard - and yet it somehow works. Bought both volumes just on the strength of the first one & hoping there are many more to be issued. rocketmorton
