“Flight Risk” consists of two compositions folded around one another, both recorded here for the first time.
The first 1:35 consists of the first 2 (of 4) sections of an untitled sound collage that was conceived of July 14 2020.
The following :35 or so consists of a melodic motif with extemporized percussion (snare drum & rainsticks) from material originally intended for Cephalic Index, composed March 13 2021.
The following dense wall of sound is the 3rd section of the initial piece and the concluding percussive (acoustic & electronic) patterns are the simultaneous endings to both works.
I feel that it works well as a singular listening experience as the two compositions share short and simple melodic gestures, basic musique concrete techniques and the environmental ambience of quotidian objects.
The title refers to my inability to be confrontational with my art. My music is my mask. This pandemic has really reinforced the fact that I fear so much.
The antithesis of Nam-June Paik really. Who says you emulate your heroes?
