Rafael González and Hal McGee invite you to spend an hour with us in our flea market (rastro) of sound! Rafael and Hal recorded the sounds on OFFICIALLY UNOFFICIAL from February 11th through March 17th, 2024 with Sony ICD PX-470 stereo digital dictaphones in The Canary Islands (Spain) and Gainesville and St. Petersburg, Florida (USA).
We loaded our 534 recordings onto four PX-470s, and on March 24th we mixed the sounds together using a random chance process by playing them back in random/shuffle mode, and we recorded the mix directly into Audacity with no post production.
Rafael's sound sources: trumpet, my voice, bike helmet, folding sofa bed, doors, my voice, Casio PT-1, Alesis Microverb 4, laptop, paper and cardboard, plastic elements (bags, containers and bottles), mop, water, windows, cassettes, masher, reel-to-reel tape recorder, acoustic guitar, hand dryer, field recordings, Philips PMC 100 synthesizer, radio transistor and fluorescent lamp (Pedro Bericat style), Shortwave, Korg Monotron Delay (short circuits), air horn, whistle, walkie talkie, metal and wooden pieces.
Hal's sound sources: my voice, sounds of my daily life in Gainesville, Squier Paranormal Cyclone electric guitar, two string pink dumpster guitar, Casio CT-S200RD, circuit bent Casio SK-1, talking with my neighbors, my dog Stanley, KQ Unotone iPhone synthesizer, my brother Mark, and recordings from a trip that Mark and I took in February to St. Petersburg, Florida (to hang out with our friends Marguerite Sissie, Hal Harmon, and Dan Fox).
The OFFICIALLY UNOFFICIAL album cover is a photo collage consisting of 144 photos by Rafael and Hal taken during the time period of recording the audio.
