- an Electronic Cottage project
The composition “ONECx15” was realized through the exclusive participation of members belonging to the Electronic Cottage online music group. I had been invited by Hal McGee to curate a project for the site and solicited vocal and instrumental sound snippets (not to exceed 9 seconds) in the form of an open invitation to all members. Each respondent was in turn provided an original photograph from myself in lieu of a part in the overall score. The score itself uses traditional rhythmic notation for the gestures that serve as the generative material for most of the composition, and the sound material submitted by the participants take on the role of pitched material. The voicing was arranged in four parts as a sort of homage to the four-track tape recorder, an indispensable tool in my development as a musician. While members of the group will surely notice that their sounds have been edited somewhat, I did not process the material in any other way.
